Performance of 7 discount retail stocks

Stocks of discount retailers have outperformed the broader stock market in recent years as consumers look to stretch their dollars.

Below are total investment returns, including dividends, of seven major discount retail stocks and off-price apparel retailers. The stocks are listed in order of year-to-date return. By comparison, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has lost 1.7 percent this year, including dividends, with a return of 0.5 percent over three years, and 0.8 percent over five years.
