Have you perfected your elevator speech yet? If not, you should definitely work on it right now. For all you know, your 30-second elevator pitch can be the key that will bring your career or your business to a whole new level. Here are some things you definitely need to consider.

Basically, an elevator pitch can be defined as a brief explanation of what you do and what you hope to achieve in the near future. Elevator pitches can prove to be a useful tool for people who are looking for a job and those who are running a business.

A good elevator speech is short, concise and to the point. It includes all the things that may be of particular interest to your audience and ideally takes less than 30 minutes to deliver.

Here are some tips that may prove to be useful:

Grab your listeners’ attention right from the get go.
Whether you are out looking for a job or promoting your business to a potential partner or prospective clients, make sure that your first lines pique your audience’s interest. Create a lasting first impression by crafting an interesting description of what you can do to help them fill their needs or hook them up with a provocative question that relates to your competencies and/or the services you offer and do it in a confident and energetic manner.

Identify key selling points.
Break down your pitch into two or three key selling points that can help set you apart from the rest of the competition. Why should they hire or consider doing business with you? Make sure you spell it out for your audience if you want to get the best possible results.

Have it tailored to fit. Create different variations of your elevator speech to make sure you have one that will be perfect for every conceivable situation.

Keep it fresh. Keep updating your pitch so that it accurately reflects who you are or what your business goals and aspirations are right now.

Practice, practice, practice.
After all, practice makes perfect. Keep on practicing your pitch until it comes out as easy as saying your own name. That will make it sound more natural and make it a lot more effective.

Your success may depend largely on how you deliver your elevator speech so work on it!
