Ola Akinboboye was named national president of the Association of Black Cardiologists. He is the medical director of Laurelton Heart Specialists P.C. in Rosedale, N.Y., an associate professor at Cornell University, a board member of the Certifying Board of Nuclear Cardiology and treasurer of the Nigerian Higher Education Foundation. He has received numerous honors for his long-standing career in medicine. For his commitment to expanding research in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Nigeria, he received a humanitarian award from his alma mater, the University of Ibadan. Akinboboye completed his medical education at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and obtained two master?s degrees, one in public health and one in business administration, from Columbia University.???
Valerie Cabral was named director of alumni relations at NYU-Polytechnic. Before this, she was assistant director for the New York University Opportunity Program. In that role, she developed initiatives that provided financial and academic support to first-generation college students from low-income, minority and immigrant backgrounds. Aside from her 25-year career working on behalf of underserved communities, she worked as a commodities and insurance reporter at The Journal of Commerce newspaper. Cabral earned a bachelor?s degree in journalism at New York University, a certificate in cross-cultural training from NYU?s center for Multicultural Education & Programs and a certificate in fundraising from NYU?s George H. Heyman?s Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising.????????
Gary H. Gibbons was named director of the National Institute of Health?s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He will assume the position in the summer, at which time he will begin to oversee an annual budget of more than $3 billion and a staff of 917 federal employees. Currently, Gibbons is the founder and director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute, chairperson of the Department of Physiology and professor of physiology and medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. Among his many medical honors is recognition as an established investigator of the American Heart Association.? The recipient of 15 grants and owner of several patents for innovations, he serves on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Gibbons has an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School.???
Con Edison named Michael Jones-Bey director of the company?s supplier diversity program. In this post, he will be responsible for developing procurement opportunities for minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs). Jones-Bey joined Con Edison after working for MWBE Partners L.L.C. Before that, he served as executive director of the N.Y. Empire State Development Corporation?s division of Minority and Women Business Development, one of the nation?s largest public sector supplier diversity programs. There, he revitalized the N.Y. State certification program, agency compliance and business development initiatives. As director of press operations to former N.Y. Governor David Paterson, Jones-Bey managed a $13 million annual budget and a staff of 140 employees. While working for the governor, he also served on the executive board of the Harlem Community Development Corporation.

Monique L. Nelson is the new CEO of UniWorld Group. She replaces founder and chairman Byron Lewis, who has retired. Lewis started the company in 1969. Prior to this, Nelson was the company?s senior vice president of brand integration.? A 15-year marketing executive, Nelson joined UWG in 2007 after serving for nine years as global lead of entertainment marketing at Motorola Inc. She volunteers at several organizations, including Sequoia Women?s Center, the Brooklyn Chapter of The Links Inc., Madison Avenue?s Internship Program and Salute to Youth. A 2011 Network Journal 40 Under Forty honoree, Nelson received a bachelor?s degree in human and organizational development from Vanderbilt University and an MBA in international marketing and finance from DePaul University.?? 
Sheila Talton, CEO of Strategy, Globalization, Technology Ltd., entered into a strategic alliance with private equity firm Sterling Partners. Under the terms of the partnership, she is charged with identifying business acquisitions in the health-care and financial services industries. During her 30-year career in technology, she has held several high-profile positions including vice president of globalization at Cisco Systems Inc. and chairman and CEO at Unisource Network Services. She sits on the advisory board of the Information Technology Senior Management Forum and is credited with being a founding member. A 2011 Network Journal 25 Influential Black Women in Business honoree, Talton earned a bachelor?s degree in marketing and speech communications from Northern Illinois University and is a graduate of the Advanced Management program of Harvard Business School.
