WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama has given student leaders a pep talk about idealism, telling them not be dissuaded by setbacks.

He says that there will be times when change they hope for won’t come as fast as they like.

It was a message with echoes of his campaign appeals to supporters. Many were drawn to his 2008 call for hope and change. But they have been disheartened by his partial successes.

The five students were at the White House to be honored for winning the White House’s Campus Champions of Change Challenge for outstanding leadership. Obama made an unscheduled visit, surprising the students.
