WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama is pressing Congress to pass the transportation part of his stalled jobs bill ? $50 billion for roads and bridges

It also includes $10 billion to attract private money to help finance such construction.

Obama says it “makes absolutely no sense” that construction workers are sitting around idle when there’s work to be done.

The Senate is expected to vote Thursday on whether to take up the $50 billion transportation measure.

Senate Republicans blocked action on the larger bill over objections to Obama’s request for more federal spending and a tax on millionaires to help pay for it.

Obama spoke at the Key Bridge, which connects the District of Columbia and Virginia across the Potomac River. The government says the bridge needs crucial repairs and maintenance.
