WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama plans to use a bridge linking Ohio and Kentucky as a prop to pitch his $447 billion jobs bill.
The president is scheduled to visit the outdated, overcrowded span next Thursday, drawing attention to his public works proposals in the backyard of House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
The president cited the bridge in his speech to Congress last week as an example of needed infrastructure work.
The bridge carries traffic from Interstates 75 and 71 over the Ohio River, linking Cincinnati with Covington, Ky. Overhauling the bridge is expected to cost more than $2 billion, but it lacks the necessary funding.
Boehner’s congressional district includes Cincinnati suburbs.
