Obama toasts governors for hard work

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama is promising the nation’s governors they have a strong partner in the White House.

The president and First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a black tie dinner for governors Sunday as part of the National Governors Association winter meeting in Washington. The president said governors have some of the hardest jobs in politics; they are expected to be accountable and yield practical results for their states.

Obama said he and the governors wouldn’t always agree on every issue but he looked forward to greater collaboration going forward. He offered a toast to the governors for their outstanding work and “to the spouses who put up with us.”

The NGA Chairman, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, offered a toast to the Obamas for their service to the country.
