Obama: Needs details on Europe bailout plan

CANNES, France (AP) ? President Barack Obama says that the most important task for world leaders meeting at an economic summit in France is to resolve the European financial crisis.

He says the European Union has taken some important steps toward a comprehensive solution but that the details need to be fleshed out about how the plan will be fully and decisively implemented.

Speaking alongside French President Nicolas Sarkozy after the two met privately on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit Thursday, Obama said they also discussed how to resolve the situation in Greece, where the prime minister shocked Europe by calling for a popular vote on the European bailout plan. Obama didn’t give details.

The global economic meeting was being overshadowed by Europe’s debt crisis and the situation in Greece.
