Obama issues 5 pardons, 1 prison commutation

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama has issued five pardons and commuted one woman’s prison sentence.

The convictions of those pardoned include intent to distribute marijuana, running an illegal gambling business, and transporting stolen property.

Obama also commuted the 2001 prison sentence of Eugenia Marie Jennings. The Alton, Ill. woman was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for distribution of cocaine base. Under the terms of her commutation, she will be released from prison next month.

The actions marked Obama’s third set of pardons. He pardoned eight people earlier this year, and issued nine pardons in December 2010.
