Obama health care law has unexpected beneficiaries

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama’s health care law created a $5 billion fund to shore up coverage for early retirees, and some of that money is flowing to places you might not expect.

Two Texas public employee programs are among the top 25 recipients despite Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s opposition to what Republicans derisively call “Obamacare.” The teachers’ and state employees’ retirement plans have collected $100 million between them.

And the Huntsman family business, where GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman sharpened his executive skills, received about $1 million.

Candidates Perry and Huntsman have both vowed to repeal Obama’s health care law. Spokesmen for the two campaigns say they see no contradictions.

A spokesman for the Huntsman company notes the candidate is no longer involved with the company.
