Obama: GOP goals would hurt women

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama is accusing congressional Republicans of being more interested in dividing the country than in strengthening the economy. He’s telling a prominent women’s legal group that the GOP’s legislative goals would hurt women.

The president was speaking to the National Women’s Law Center, a legal advocacy group that is friendly to the Obama administration.

He said Republicans want to overturn the new health care law and would let health insurance companies once again charge women higher rates and prevent millions of women from obtaining tests such as pap smears and breast exams.

He said Republicans are focused on “turning back the clock.”

The Women’s Law Center is among several groups that have been helping the administration fend off legal challenges to the health care law.
