HONOLULU (AP) ? President Barack Obama is heading into a day of diplomacy in his native Hawaii with some of the most important ? and complicated ? of U.S. allies.
After flying from San Diego, Obama arrived late Friday in Honolulu to begin a week of diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific that will take him from Hawaii to Australia to Indonesia.
In Hawaii, the U.S. is hosting an economic summit for nations in the crucial and growing region. Trade was also to be a focus Saturday with the president meeting with leaders of the eight nations who are partners in an emerging free trade agreement that the White House wants to use to tie Obama’s overseas travels to jobs back at home.
