VINEYARD HAVEN, Mass. (AP) ? The White House says President Barack Obama has been briefed on the latest developments in Libya.
Rebel forces were said to be fewer than 20 miles west of the capital of Tripoli on Sunday, pushing closer to leader Moammar Gadhafi’s base during the 6-month-old civil war.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says Obama was briefed by counterterrorism adviser John Brennan, and heard reports from U.S. teams on the ground in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi.
Brennan is with the president as he vacations on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
Earnest says the U.S. will remain in close contact with its allies and Libyan rebel leaders.
