NPR to End Long-Running Show, ‘Tell Me More,’ Targeted to Minority Audiences

Michele MartinNPR has announced that in August, it will end ‘Tell Me More,’ a show hosted by Michel Martin and targeted to African Americans. In the move, 28 positions will be eliminated.

It is the latest in a string of failed attempts to maintain programming for minority audiences.

According to Executive Vice President Kinsey Wilson, the show ?wasn?t carried by enough NPR member stations for it to achieve financial viability.?

Though there will be lay-offs, Martin will stay on and produce segments for NPR shows. ?Tell Me More?s? executive producer, Carline Watson, will also remain with the station and lead an editorial team that will cover race and social issues.

Other shows on NPR that focus on race are ?Code Switch,? hosted by Michele Norris and ?Race Card Project.?
