TikTok will release a new US app September 5,2025. If they don’t tell their US operation by September 17th they will be band from the US. ByteDance owns tiktok and need to address US security concerns. Officials worry that the app will sell their data to China. TikTok denies this. 

 You’ll have to download the new app to use TikTok.  Analysts think the app will fix the security issues.Tech analyst Ray Wang says TikTok will still be popular after the sale.170+millions Americans used TikTok to watch videos. Small businesses, influencers and big brands use TikTok for marketing. No comments for TikTok.

TikTok is building a new one called M2

They plan to launch M2 on September 5. Trump just approved an extension to keep TikTok alive. The extension expires in mid September. A source told the information that M2 will replace the current app. Once M2 launches, they will remove the original app from the stores. The original app will stop working March 2026. This affects 170 million US users.  This deal will allow TikTok to continue the operate in the US branch. Some called them very rich people. ByteDance will still have a smaller state in the US version. China has to approve with the final Deal.

A report says it’s unusual for popular apps to ask users to switch versions. One source says said a new version would reduce data privacy concerns.

The report doesn’t say if Trump or investors suggested it the US only version.

Trump extended ByteDance’s deadline to September 17. ByteDance mast sell TikTok’s US operation by then. Current users can keep using TikTok until March 2026.They will have to switch to the new app after the sale. Current users can keep using TikTok until marks 2026. Tik Tok will have as 6 month period where both app will work. 

Tik Tok has not said if followers videos or messages will move automatically. This is all because of us fears of Chinese spying. Tik Tok says they don’t share user data with China. Lawmakers say selling TikTok will boost national security. Deal hurdles remain despite efforts to close the sales. Earlier this year China blog assimilas sale after US tariff. China’s export rule need approval for tiktok algorithm transfers. 

Oracle plays a key role in resolving US national security concerns about TikTok

Trump said he will begin talks with China about a TikTok deal. The deal would involves non Chinese investors, including Oracle. ByteDance would keep only a minority stake to meet federal rules.

TikTok has to split its code to manage algorithms and data storage. Apple’s App Store rules don’t allow market specific forks within one app listing.TikTok will release M2 as a standalone app. It’s still unknown who will own the TikTok M2 app.  Oracle will probably join that group. Oracle might also provide U.S.-based cloud services for TikTok under the PAFACA law.

The current app will stop working March 2026. Apple doesn’t allow legend specific versions in one app listing. TikTok has to release the US app as a separate App Store entry. The new app is part of TikTok’s fight to stay in the US. Congress past a law forcing ByteDance to sell for face a ban. Trump has given 3 extensions to the original January deadline. The current extension lasts until September 17. All user data will move to us based service during the transition. This aim to is worries about Chinese government access to user data.

The U.S. only app is a short term technical fix but doesn’t solve the legal or diplomatic issues.

Lawmakers say any Chinese access to user data is an unacceptable risk.

Less than 3 months to the deadline. TikTok’s future in the U.S. is uncertain. Will a sale happen in time? Regulators in both U.S. and China have to approve the deal. TikTok is still operating but under scrutiny. The company has no time to solve these problems.

Not sure how this ties to the US government’s threat to ban TikTok if it’s not sold. The report doesn’t say.

Meanwhile, US President Trump says a “group of very wealthy people” will buy TikTok’s US operations from ByteDance. We don’t know who they are yet, but Trump says he’ll tell us later this month. The deal will need approval from the Chinese government since ByteDance is based there. Whether China will approve it is unknown.
