NAME: Bill Nasgovitz
TITLE: Founder, president and CEO of Heartland Advisors Inc., a Milwaukee-based manager of more than $5 billion in mutual fund assets and private accounts. Nasgovitz is also the lead manager of the Heartland Value fund, a $1.1 billion stock fund.

CAREER: The Milwaukee native began his career with the brokerage Dean Witter in 1968 as a San Francisco-based retail and institutional sales broker. He later bought a Milwaukee area brokerage firm which was eventually sold. Founded Heartland Advisors in 1983, and launched the Heartland Value fund the following year. Today, Heartland Advisors manages three mutual funds.
PERSONAL: Married for 40 years, Nasgovitz is the father of four grown children, including Will, a co-manager of the Heartland Value fund, and the Heartland Select Value fund.
NOTEWORTHY: Nasgovitz personally invests in each of his company’s funds, with a total investment exceeding $1 million. His investing decisions are guided by Heartland’s “10 Principles of Value Investing.” Nasgovitz devised the proprietary principles during the bear market of 1973-74, after re-reading Benjamin Graham’s classic book, “The Intelligent Investor.”
