Singer/songwriter Monifah (TV One’s R & B Divas)?has spent the last part of the year boldly stretching herself as an artist.? While most of us are winding down, Monifah is pushing through to develop a new career in musical theater.
From December 5 through December 17, 2016, for 12 performances only, in a small theater not far from where she grew up in East Harlem, Monifah will perform in the new musical FOR ALL MY GIRLS: A Musical Celebrating the ?Everyday Diva.? It is the story of four friends: LaVerne, Cathy, Lisa and Candice. All they want is a fun-filled girls? night out on the town. BUT, the world won’t leave them alone. The night takes many unintended turns that lead the women to do some honest soul-searching about themselves, their lives and each other.
With a book, music and lyrics by Tmapp, FOR ALL MY GIRLS features a mix of R & B, Gospel, Rock and Soul music. Composer, orchestrator, and producer Kenny Seymour is the musical director. Lacy Darryl Phillips serves as the choreographer. Marishka S. Phillips directs.
Performances run through December 17, Monday-Saturday at 8pm, at the Poet’s Den Theater.
