Mira Lowe, former managing editor of Jet, was appointed editor in chief, a newly created position at the magazine.She will oversee the magazine’s editorial content, staffing and evolving direction on both print and digital platforms. Lowe’s journalism career spans more than 20 years in management, editing, writing and production.
Prior to joining Johnson Publishing in 2007, she was associate editor for recruitment at Newsday, on Long Island, N.Y., which she joined in 1989 as a copy editor. She was also director of the paper’s Minority Editorial Training Program and she oversaw “LI Life,” a Sunday lifestyle section.
Lowe holds a bachelor’s degree in television and radio from Brooklyn College and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University. She taught journalism at Columbia and at York College in New York.
She is the co-author of Heart and Soul: A Marriage of Love, Faith and Journalism, published by the World Journalism Institute.
