Residents in Minnesota are on alert with a significant weather system approaching the area. Both Sunday and Monday have been designated as NEXT Minnesota Storms Weather Forecast Alert days, particularly throughout southern Minnesota, and in the Twin Cities.

Calm Before the Storm

Sunday began with light rains throughout the metro. But by afternoon and early evening, there was a temporary window of peaceful weather. Temperatures were in the low 60s, providing a temporary respite before the approaching storm system.

But the peace won’t last long. WCCO meteorologists Riley O’Connor and Lisa Meadows say conditions will quickly shift later Sunday night. Residents are advised to remain weather aware as the storms become more intense overnight.

Severe Threat for Monday

The National Weather Service cautions that Monday may witness some of the busiest weather. The greatest threat of severe storms is projected to happen from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the metro region.

A moderate risk level has been posted, rated 4 out of 5. This covers the Twin Cities, south-central and southeastern Minnesota, west-central Wisconsin, and portions of Iowa. All types of severe weather can’t be ruled out — including damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes.

The rest of Minnesota is not exempt, however. The majority of the state is under an increased level of threat, rated 3 out of 5. Quickly, conditions may shift. Hence, it is essential to keep an eye on weather warnings throughout the day.

Tuesday Brings Relief

Monday could be chaotic. But, Tuesday appears much calmer. Dry skies prevail, with highs of about 60 degrees. It will be a relief for those who need to examine any of the storm damage or clear away debris.

Moving forward, temperatures will slowly rise. By the weekend, temperatures will comfortably rest in the high 60s to just below 70 degrees. But the metro may experience further rain by Thursday, the WCCO NEXT Weather Team says.

Safety First

Minnesota officials are encouraging everyone to get ready now. Severe Minnesota Storms Weather can cause unexpected flooding, powerful winds, and even deadly lightning. The WCCO staff has provided advice on safety tips, stating that a storm plan is essential.

Residents must also be aware of flood risks and extreme heat that occasionally accompany intense storm systems. If you are traveling, monitor updates, particularly on large highways such as I-35W, which is also threatened with a closure this weekend.

Stay Informed

Many news channels and the officials continue to offer current coverage. So follow them for live radar monitoring to safety warnings, the NEXT Weather Team works around the clock.

A renowned meteorologist Riley O’Connor, with the station since 2019, reminds us that weather is ever-changing. Having the right news sources will help you stay updated and protect yourself and your family from any danger.

Last Word

Spring storms are nothing new to Minnesota, but this system warrants scrutiny. Ride out storms indoors. Charge your mobile devices, inspect emergency kits, and monitor reputable sources for regular updates as they happen.

Be safe, Minnesota!
