Dressed in a youthful, white, off-the-shoulder dress, FLOTUS said, among other things, that education is cool. She also declared, “Black girls rock! To all the young women here tonight, and all across the country, let me say those words again: Black girls rock!”

She continued, “No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, you are beautiful, you are powerful, you are brilliant, you are funny. Let me tell you, I am so proud of you. My husband, your president, is so proud of you. And we have such big hopes and dreams for every single one of you.”

Other highlights of BET?s annual televised program, created from DJ Beverly Bond?s non-profit organization, Black Girls Rock!, include Selma director Ava DuVernay?s Shot Caller award;? Jada Pinkett?s Star Power award; Cicely Tyson?s Living Legend Award; Erykah Badu?s Rock Star award; Dr. Helene D. Gayle?s Social Humanitarian?s award; and Nadia Lopez?s Change Agent award.
