Mary E. Stutts
President
MES Concepts L.L.C., Green Valley, Calif.
Mary E. Stutts takes the exhortation ?Each one teach one? to heart in her efforts to provide women with tools to successfully navigate their careers. Stutts is president of MES Concepts L.L.C., a nonprofit that helps companies to effectively manage their relationships with stakeholders to enhance their reputation and acceptance in marketplace. A 25-year veteran of the health-care industry who held senior positions at Elan Pharmaceuticals, United Health Group, Genentech, Bayer Corp. and Kaiser Permanente, she now counts biotechnology and life sciences companies among her clients.
Stutts is also the author of The Missing Mentor: Women Advising Women on Power, Progress and Priorities and Ten Keys to Overcoming Disappointment. Her sermons as an associate minister at Revival Center Ministries in Vallejo, Calif., led her to write Ten Keys, she says. ?I have found that a lot of times, when people are struggling, stalled or depressed, it is because they have been disappointed. But they have to overcome their disappointment and re-enter the promise of life so that they keep moving and making progress.??
Her personal experiences throughout her corporate career set her on the path to mentoring. She appears regularly at conferences, on television and in print as an expert on mentoring. Stutts has also launched several initiatives advocating diversity in clinical trials, with a view toward educating minorities about the importance of scientific research and on the importance or participating in them. She serves on the national board of directors of The Wellness Community/Gilda?s Club Worldwide and of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for foster children in the court system).
Stutts has a bachelor?s degree in communications management from the University of Louisiana and a master?s in health administration from the University of Southern California. She attended the Stanford University Graduate School of Business executive program on strategy and organization.
