Mansa Nicome
Agency Owner?????
State Farm Agency
Neptune City, N.J.
Age: 33
The jingle ?Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there? is more than just a catchy promotional tune for Mansa Nicome. A native of Trinidad and Tobago who migrated to Brooklyn, N.Y., at the age of 6, Nicome began his career with insurance giant State Farm in 2001 as a claims processor. He moved on to positions in various departments before opening his own State Farm agency in 2008. Along with his team, Nicome uses his agency to help families manage the risks of everyday life while educating them on how to successfully secure their financial future. ?I didn?t always know that I wanted to be a business owner per se, but I knew that I always wanted to be in a leadership position and be able to help people,? he explains.
?
Nicome has a bachelor?s degree in economics from Stony Brook University and an MBA in corporate finance from Dowling College, and became a chartered financial consultant (ChFC?) this year. He cites his father, who worked full time to support the family while studying pharmacy, as a stellar example of a hard worker.

Besides owning a business that employs several local residents, Nicome gives back to his community in other ways:? He is affiliated with the Midtown Urban Revitalization Council and the Asbury Park and Neptune Township National Night Out Against Crime, and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, a fraternity renowned for service to and advocacy for Black communities. If he had the time and money, he muses, he would become a college professor so that he could mold young minds. For now, however, he advises youngsters who hope to be entrepreneurs to ?Have a Plan A, but never a Plan B. Plan B means that you?re open to failure and that should never be an option.?
