EDUCATION: Holds a master’s degree in science and physics from the University of Hanover in Germany.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER: Heins joined RIM four years ago from Siemens AG. He served as one of RIM’s two chief operating officers since July 2011 and was previously senior vice president for the handheld business unit. He joined Siemens in 1984 and spent 23 years there, rising to become chief technology officer.

FAMILY: Heins is married with a daughter and a son.

HOBBIES: Bicycling, motorcycling, skiing, hiking.
