Komoy M. Jones, J.D.
Associate Director of Compliance
Balyasny Asset Management, L.P.
New York, NY
Komoy Jones measures success in terms of the number of people she helps by adding value to their lives. I live by the doctrine that to whom much is given, much is expected, says Jones. Born in Jamaica and was raised in the United States, she saw her parents struggled to educate their children. They were able to provide each of their three children with what they believed is the best gift a parent can give a child, a debt-free college education.
Jones received her bachelors degree in political science, minoring in history and sociology, from Hampton University, a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law, and a Master of Public Administration degree from The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse. Attending law school afforded me a different way of thinking and viewing the world. It was the segue for me to develop relationships to get exposure to and build a career in the alternative investment space, she says.
As the associate director of compliance at Balyasny Asset Management L.P., an institutional multi-strategy investment firm, Jones gives guidance to portfolio managers, traders, marketing and sales professionals and senior management in such areas of their daily activities as trading regulations, safeguarding confidential proprietary and inside information, and communication with investors. She devotes private time to mentoring young adults who are interested in attending law school, showing others how to create residual income through real estate investing, and, whenever possible, volunteering at a battered womens shelter. She is the founder of and managing director of acquisitions for a private real estate investment company that focuses on investing in multifamily apartment buildings. Her dream: establish a nonprofit organization to teach children of immigrants and children from low-income families about financial literacy and investing, and provide some of the resources for their first investment.
