The Knicks are about to transform themselves from Coach Mike D?Antoni?s run and stun offense to a more traditional type defensive minded team. Oh sure, they will score their fair share of points with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire manning the forward spots. Those two bookend forwards are good for 50 points per night in their sleep alone. But what good is it if you score fifty points but you give up sixty?
There now comes the decision. Do the Knicks wait, hope and dream of Chris Paul coming to the Gotham as a free agent next year or do they take a player who wants to come here now and has already won a championship?? The 7-1, 235 pound Tyson Chandler is more than just a tall fella. He?s great in the locker room, athletic as all get out and loves to play defense. He would also serve as a great mentor for young center Jerome Jordan who was stashed overseas for the past two seasons.
The fallout however with gaining Chandler is the loss of Mr. Big Shot Chauncey Billups.? Billups was and still is a pros pro; and he?s a winner.? There will be a gaping hole for point guard with shaky Toney Douglas and ultra athletic but unproven first-round pick Iman Shumpert. Some of the names the Knicks are considering are Baron Davis (if he gets cut by the Cleveland Cavaliers), Carlos Arroyo and Mike Bibby. Bibby?s dad played for the Knicks in the 1970?s and was an outstanding shooter.
Despite last year’s expectations, the Knicks is a team to reckon with for seasons to come.
