Vice President, Institutional Sales and Marketing Madison Square Investors L.L.C. New York City, Age: 38
Joy C. Booker became a vice president of institutional sales and marketing at Madison Square Investors L.L.C., a subsidiary of New York Life Investment Management, after she participated in the firm’s Management Rotation Program. She is a relationship manager for the firms’ institutional clients, which include corporate pension plans, foundations, endowments, public funds and financial corporations.
Prior to Madison Square Investors, her assignments were global — from developing an application to facilitate life insurance sales and operations in China for New York Life to leading a team for financial software implementation in England for Deloitte Consulting.
Great mentors and a lot of moxie paved her path to career success. “It’s imperative to seek out those whom can point you in the right career direction, but it’s equally important that you actually go,” she says.
Booker cut her teeth as a management consultant at Deloitte Consulting and Price Waterhouse. She is president of The Executive Leadership Council’s Next Generation Network and volunteers with the alumni association, Columbia Women in Business and with Today’s Already Rising Achiever, an international women’s network. She strives to help improve the lives of others — from working with children in Kenya to her work with Habitat for Humanity. “I don’t live to work. I work to live a life that affords me the opportunity to bless others,” she says.
Booker holds an MBA from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Binghamton University in New York.
