AMMAN, Jordan (AP) ? Jordan’s king has condemned police attacks on journalists during a recent pro-reform demonstration in the capital, calling them unjustified.
The official Petra news agency quoted King Abdullah II on Thursday as saying the government and police must allow journalists to cover political and special events and to guarantee their safety.
Last Friday, at least 16 journalists and photographers were among dozens of people wounded when security forces cracked down on protesters in the capital.
Six months of street protests demanding more political say in Jordan have been largely peaceful, compared to elsewhere in the Arab world.
