Head of Marketing & Investor Relations
Mark Asset Management
New York, N.Y.
While attending University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s undergraduate business school, Jerry Bright learned that nearly half of all CEOs have a sales background. That statistic would shape Bright’s professional career, inspiring him to understand how all aspects of a business works in order to be a better salesperson, and to develop relationships with key players in order to become one himself.
Bright is head of marketing and investor relations at Mark Asset Management, a $500 million New York City hedge fund. “The nature of doing my job is talking about how we invest, and the financial products we have to offer relative to other investment options,” Bright explains. “I’m constantly becoming more educated and informed about what’s going on in the world, given the sectors and geographies we invest in.”
Bright honed his marketing expertise at Third Point LLC, a hedge fund; Time magazine; and Reuters (now Thompson Reuters). An internship while at Reuters took him to London, then to a post in Japan. He subsequently became one of the firm’s youngest directors globally.
Bright holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNC and completed the executive master of business administration program at New York University. A 1996 White House intern, he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., has served and will again serve on the board of trustees of two institutions that, he asserts, benefited him most as a youth growing up in New York City’s South Bronx community: Prep for Prep and Collegiate School. He would have chosen public service were he not in marketing, he admits. “I give all the credit and respect in the world to public servants and educators,” he says. “Growing up, I was exposed to so many great opportunities, so to me it’s all about creating opportunities for others.”
