On-air news personality Jennifer Jordan steals the show as New York My9/WWOR-TV?s general assignment correspondent and fill-in anchor. Since joining the station in 2006, Jordan has reported headline features such as the trial of three New York Police officers charged in the shooting death of an unarmed man, Sean Bell; and Pope Benedict XVI?s visit to New York.
Previously, Jordan was a member of the WCBS-TV news team in New York and earned two Emmy Award nominations for her coverage of the city?s mass transit strike. At New York News 12 Westchester, she won an Emmy for her on-camera achievements and another for her hard-hitting investigation ?Predator Next Door.? Away from the cameras, Jordan gives numerous presentations at school career days and community job fairs. In 2003, she was inducted into Peekskill High School?s alumni Hall of Fame. She has also received community awards for her features on neighborhood issues and for her volunteer work with local charities.
Accolades aside, Jordan is most proud of her daughter. A single mother, she strives to serve as a role model to other women balancing children and a career. ?I?m living proof that women can climb the corporate ladder with a baby in tow,? she quips. She attributes much of her success to her parents, John and Leila Jordan, from whom she learned the importance of setting goals and getting an education. And she credits her high-school teacher ?Mr. Glassberg? with piquing her interest in news reporting by assigning homework that required research on the exploitation of women in high-fashion magazines.
Jordan obtained a bachelor?s degree in broadcast journalism from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
