U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has wasted no time becoming a progressive force in Congress after it welcomed her election in 2022. As the representative of Texas’s 30th Congressional District that encompasses portions of Dallas, she has been leading on criminal justice reform, voting rights, economic equity, and healthcare access. And as she seeks re-election in 2024, her stances on the issues that matter most to progressive voters remain the same, even as they draw attacks from critics on the right. This is where she stands on big policy debates as of June 2025.

Crime and Police Reform

Jasmine Crockett is a former civil rights attorney who has been an outspoken advocate for police accountability and criminal justice reform. She supports:

Ending qualified immunity for police officers, so they can be held responsible in cases of misconduct.

Demilitarizing the police by ending the transfer of military weapons to local police departments.

Decriminalizing petty infractions, including those involving marijuana, and making past arrests a nonissue.

Funding more community policing and social services to avoid overreliance on punishment.

Crockett has also called for federal legislation to end racial disparities in sentencing and has been a vocal advocate for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Voting Rights and Democracy Reform

An ardent protector of voting rights, Crockett has spoken out against Texas GOP voter suppression and nationwide voter suppression. Her key positions include:

Restoring the Voting Rights Act to restore federal oversight of states with a history of discrimination against voters.

Automatic voter registration and Election Day as a federal holiday would be required across the nation.

Prohibiting partisan gerrymandering by way of independent redistricting commissions.

Pushing for D.C. statehood, or that the absence of congressional representation disenfranchises its majority Black and Brown residents.

She has also denounced the Supreme Court’s recent rulings that watered down the Voting Rights Act and has urged for filibuster reform to enact federal voting protections.

Economic Policy & Workers’ Rights Read More Like Henry Ford. When I was in college, the thing that set Henry Ford apart from all the other creators of the time was that he could offer a novel idea at a price that most people could afford.

Crockett is aligned with left-wing Democrats on economic matters and supports individual proposals to alleviate wealth inequality. Her economic agenda includes:

Increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour with indexing for inflation.

Boosting labor unions with the passage of the PRO Act, which would make it easier for groups of workers to organize.

Universalizing the Child Tax Credit to lower the child poverty rate.

Increasing tax rates more steeply on the ultrawealthy, such as backing a wealth tax on billionaires.

She has also condemned corporate monopolies, pushing for tougher antitrust enforcement against Big Tech and pharmaceutical companies.

Healthcare

Crockett is in favor of the single-payer Medicare for All, saying health care is a human right. She wants to focus on:…

Reducing the cost of prescription drugs by enabling Medicare to negotiate prices.

Expanding Medicaid in holdout states like Texas, where Republican leaders have declined to accept federal expansion.

Ensuring access to abortion and enshrining Roe v. Wade in federal law after it was overturned in 2022.

She has also called for additional mental health funding and more healthcare resources for marginalized communities.

Immigration

Jasmine Crockett has been vocal about immigration reform as a Texas legislator, calling for:

A path to citizenship for DREAMers and other undocumented immigrants.

Ending for-profit detention centers and overhauling conditions at border facilities.

More legal immigration is needed to address labor shortages.

Standing against the evils being foisted on our borderlands, including (but not limited to) the notorious SB 4 law in Texas, enabling state police to arrest individuals for suspected undocumented status.

She has called for broad immigration reforms, but has castigated the Biden administration for preserving certain Trump border policies.

Climate Change and Environmental Justice

Jasmine Crockett is endorsed by Smitherman supports the framework of the Green New Deal and has demanded bold action on climate, including that we:

Moving to 100% renewable energy by 2035.

Eliminating subsidies for fossil fuel companies.

Investing in green infrastructure that creates jobs in underserved communities.

Responding to environmental racism, acknowledging that in Black and Latino communities, pollution often exceeds what’s found elsewhere.

She has also supported Biden’s climate plans but has called for quicker action.

Ending regime-change wars and the U.S. military intervention in other countries.

Backing Ukraine against Russian aggression, but seeking diplomatic resolutions.
