JJIllinois Congressman Jesse?Jackson Jr. says he’s decided not to run for Chicago mayor, slightly narrowing the field in the race to replace longtime Mayor Richard M. Daley in the country’s third largest city.

Jackson has been dogged by links to the corruption case of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his relationship with a female “social acquaintance.”

The Chicago Democrat announced in a written statement Monday that he wants to continue his work in Congress. Jackson, the son of civil rights leader the Rev. Jesse?Jackson, is expected to easily win re-election next week.

Daley surprised many when he announced in September that he wouldn’t seek re-election. He’s been mayor for more than 20 years. Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is among those preparing for the race.
