After the ceasefire was imposed in Israel and Iran by the US, the first public comment was initiated by Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He has publicly announced that Iran has proved to be the one who achieved victory in the 12-day war with Israel. Also, he mentioned on Thursday, 26 June, that it had delivered a slap on the face of America, which tried to intervene in the personal matters of the two countries. He has made several critical remarks on the US and its reasons for intervening in a war unnecessarily.
Khamenei criticized the US intervention.
Khamenei delivered a speech in a video broadcast where he made several statements regarding the US intervention. He has criticized the US’s intervention in a matter that was not its concern. He also expressed his views on why the US must have intervened- the fear that Iran would destroy Israel’s regime. Also, he said that the intervention did not benefit the US in any way. Khamenei boasted how the Iranian missiles destroyed the US bases situated in Qatar, which in reality didn’t cause any major damage to their properties. In the attack, all the rockets were neutralised and no casualties were recorded.
Moreover, if we talk about facts, Khamenei got grounded the moment war broke out between Iran and Israel on 13 June. During this whole time when Israel bombed the nuclear sites in Iran, followed by the US intervention, he wasn’t seen once in public. It was only once on Sunday, when he released a video saying that the conflict has reached a perpetual height. He also mentioned that he would address the public through a video message on Thursday, which he did.
Foreign Ministry Officials on the US bombing
Khamenei’s speech was broadcast a day after a bill was passed in the parliament not to cooperate with the UN’s nuclear watchdog. According to Iranian Media, the politicians blindly followed the move against the International Atomic Energy Agency, without knowing the consequences.
With the favour of politicians, the Supreme National Security is bound to allow any future inspection by the IAEA, as stated by the bill. This bill has to be signed by the unelected Guardian Council so that it becomes a law. The media pointed out that a disagreement with the IAEA can have negative impacts as well.
Through the television, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf, a prominent parliament speaker, said that their request to condemn the attack on the nuclear sites of Iran has been directly refused by the IAEA. Moreover, he said that by this act, the IAEA has staked its credibility internationally. He has announced that Iran will not cooperate with the IAEA in any case if they don’t guarantee the security of their nuclear sites.
Iran Demands Nuclear Rights
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Esmail Baghaei, has stated that Iran has the full right to nuclear energy to use for domestic purposes. Esmail Baghaei pointed out that “Iran has the full right under Article 4 of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes” and that they are not willing to drop that right.
In addition, Iran has demanded action against the US for the aggression shown in the fight that was never theirs. It claimed that the act of violence by bombing bunker buster is regarded as ‘destroying diplomacy.’ The actions taken by the US showed their support for Israel and its tactics, which are against the UN charter. It has pointed out how the US’s actions are not considered, while Iran’s nuclear sites are not getting any attention.
