US President Donald Trump has renamed the Gulf of Mexico as Gulf of America. Furthermore, he designated February 9 as Gulf of America Day in an executive order. Additionally, the order of President Donald Trump titled “Restoring Names That Honour American Greatness”. Moreover, the order instructed the US Secretary of the Interior to formalize the name change within 30 days.

The executive order of President Donald Trump defines the newly named Gulf as the US Continental Shelf area bounded to the north east,north, and north west by Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi , Alabama and Florida, extending to the maritime boundary with Mexico and Cuba.

President Donald Trump in an official proclamation stated that he has taken this action as the Gulf of Mexico has been a vital resource for the nation and is an enduring part of America. Additionally, on the flight on Air Force One from Palm Beach, Florida to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX, Trump highlighted the importance of the remaining while passing over the Gulf. He stated that it is only right that they recognize the historic moment and the remainder of the Gulf of America.

According to Trump’s order, the US Coast Guard has begun using the name Gulf of America. Additionally, the Interior Secretary Doung Burgum has 30 days to finalize the transition.
