PARIS (AP) ? A Paris court has ordered French Internet providers to block access to a website that shows images of police officers and personal information about them.

The court says in an order Friday that providers must immediately block access to the site Copwatchnord-idf pending investigation into whether its activities are legal.

The Interior Ministry and a police union had sought the blockage of the site, saying it puts police officers at risk by exposing their identities and information about their personal lives.

The site has drawn attention in recent weeks, billing itself as a citizens’ effort to identify and prevent police abuse. It appeared to draw inspiration from similar sites in the United States such as Copwatch.
