BEIJING (AP) — A former leading figure in China’s state-owned phone industry has been sentenced to prison on charges of taking bribes.
The official Xinhua News Agency says a former deputy general manager of China Mobile, Zhang Chunjiang, was sentenced Friday to death with a two-year reprieve. Such sentence usually are commuted to life in prison with good behavior.
Zhang was convicted of taking 7.5 million yuan ($1.1 million) in bribes. Few details of the case against him have been disclosed but earlier news reports said he was accused of selling favors.
