Photo of First Lady Michelle Obama and her husbandWe?ve watched the first lady tackle many issues from childhood obesity to healthy eating during her time spent in the White House. We?ve witnessed her style evolution from those fabulous dresses to the bangs.

And now, as she turns 50 years old today, she takes on her biggest issue yet: education policy.

On Thursday during a White House event that included colleges and other organizations committed to recruiting low-income students to universities, Mrs. Obama shared her personal experience about the road leading up to her admission to Princeton University.

?The truth is that if Princeton hadn?t found my brother as a basketball recruit, and if I hadn?t seen that he could succeed on a campus like that, it never would have occurred to me to apply to that school ? never,? Michelle Obama, a 1985 graduate of the Ivy League school, said at the event. ?And I know that there are so many kids out there just like me.?
