Fashion designer B. Michael of B. Michael AMERICA was one of 5 top designers selected for a fashion campaign that underscores the significance of fashion that is made in New York.
In February 2015, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Made in NY: Fashion and the City?s investment in the industry of $15 million. New York City Economic Development Corporation launched the first awareness campaign around New York Fashion week in September 2015, as well as a certification program for fashion designers who produce at least 75% of their product(s) in New York City.
Launching during New York Fashion Week, the fall 2016 campaign tells the unique stories of five certified designers and explores the benefits of their certifications. Through documentary-style video, print, social media, web content, and more, the campaign will influence more New York City designers to become Made in NY certified.
In the video, B. Michael says, ?New York City for me is like a sanctuary of inspiration. I think the best thing about being a New York City fashion designer are the resources that are available to me…Our patterns are graded in New York City, our cutting is done in New York City and all of our sewing is done in New York City. To become a certified Made in NY brand really fit the DNA of who we are and makes us a true heritage brand. It?s the idea of galvanizing like-minded designers, brands and factories and making sure that New York City remains the fashion capital of the world. The future of fashion is made in New York.?
