Elon Musk has officially announced another entry into the AI world with his own AI chatbot named Grok 3. In the launch demo event, Musk claimed Grok 3 is even more capable than Grok 2. He even thanked the team for its hard work and expressed his gratitude. The launch event was live-streamed with over 100,000 viewers watching the event. After the chaotic launch of DeepSeek, the launch of Grok 3 is definitely a major event in the world of AI. If you are someone who wants to know more about the Grok 3 AI launch, this article is for you. It brings you everything you must know about the launch including the new features and its competitors.

Grok-3 AI VS The Competitors

Elon Musk’s AI company xAI showcased the benchmark comparisons of Grok 3’s performance with the currently trending AI chatbots. Its competitors include AI chatbots like Google’s Gemini 2 Pro, DeepSeek V3, and OpenAI’s GPT-4o. The performance of Grok 3 in science, mathematics, and coding is especially monitored. According to Musk, Grok 3 is the smartest AI on Earth. He laid emphasis on the fact that deep understanding and empathy are the key factors that set it apart from its competitors.

Story Behind The Name Of Grok 3 AI

During the launch event, Elon Musk also talked about why he chose Grok as the name of his Artificial Intelligence chatbot. He explained that the term is derived from the novel “Stranger in a Strange Land.” Robert Heinlein has authored the novel that inspired the name of Grok 3 AI. He further explained that the name Grok is used for a character that is raised on Mars and means to understand something fully as well as profoundly.

What’s New In Elon Musk’s Grok 3 AI Chatbot?

The development team of Grok 3 AI claimed that the new chatbot has 10 times more computing capabilities compared to its predecessor. Musk revealed that Grok 3 was developed pre-training in the early days of January. Its performance is already improving every day. He mentioned that you can see improvements literally within 24 hours.

Another important upgrade with the new Grok 3 AI, which is going to be extremely beneficial, is its Deepsearch tool. It is basically a new AI-powered smart search engine. It does not simply answer your questions like other regular chatbots. It gives you a detailed explanation of the thought process of the bot. It explains how it processes your query and formulates your response. A similar tool also exists in the Perplexity AI chatbot.

Grok 3 AI also comes with a voice mode that will now allow the AI to answer your queries verbally. This significantly enhances your experience with the AI. However, you cannot use this feature directly after the launch. Musk mentioned that this feature is still under development and will launch within a week of the launch. The newly added features aim to make Grok 3 much more user-friendly.

Elon Musk’s xAI In Competition With OpenAI

OpenAI is one of the biggest competitors for any of the Artificial Intelligence chatbots that are launched in the market. xAI is no different. Elon Musk has always severely criticized OpenAI and even filed two lawsuits against the company. He accused OpenAI of moving away from its original mission. He also offered to buy the non-profit arm of OpenAI for $97.4 billion but faced rejection. Sam Altman, who is the CEO of OpenAI, claimed Musk’s offer was an attempt to slow them down. xAI will reportedly raise around $10 billion which may push its valuation up to $75 billion. OpenAI, on the other hand, is seeking $40 billion in funding which may raise its valuation up to $300 billion

Grok 3 AI Facing Infrastructural Challenges

You cannot build the “smartest AI on Earth” without a proper and serious infrastructure. Executives from Elon Musk’s xAI mentioned how they had to make their own data center from scratch. They did so in around four months just to meet their launch goals. The xAI team successfully managed to get 100,000 GPUs up and running in just 122 days. Furthermore, they even doubled the capacity in just 92 days.

Other companies are also highly supportive of proper AI infrastructure. Dell Technologies has reportedly finalized a deal worth $5 billion with Elon’s xAI. It will provide xAI with the high-performance AI servers they need. Major technology giants, namely Oracle, SoftBank, and MGX, have plans to invest around $500 billion in AI data infrastructure as well as centers.
