Donald Trump’s Lawsuit: President Donald Trump has stepped up to drop a lawsuit against Iowa Pollster Ann Selzer, the Des Moines Register, and its publisher, Gannett, over the matter of the 2024 elections. As per Trump, the democratic nominee Kamala Harris observed a sudden increase in the votes and support a few days before the 2024 elections. The complaint was filed in early December at the Iowa District Court but was later shifted to the federal court. Trump then refiled it for the state court; however, the request was denied by the federal court to change it to state court a few hours ago.
What complaint did Trump file against Harris?
Donald Trump accused the Des Moines Register on the charges of ‘brazen election interference’ for their defamatory comments on him. Other than that, he states their actions as a violation of consumer protection laws for spreading false information on the internet. The complaint was filed shortly after ABC News started defaming him for his election strategies.
Shortly, Selzer posted a poll to identify the winner and supporters of the democrats. To Kamala Harris’s surprise, their side was 3 points ahead of Trump’s side. However, in the end, Donald Trump had a lead of 13 points over Harris, while the calculations by Kamala Harris’s poll had an error of 3 points.
On Trump’s request, the case was looked at closely by the court attorneys. However, they have dismissed the case ‘without prejudice’ on Monday. The attorneys and GOP Lawmakers joined the complaint on Monday and discussed the issue with all the members. Thus, the report concluded with the dismissal of the case due to its irrelevance.
Trump’s Reaction to the Dismissal?
After the dismissal and acceptance by Donald Trump and his legal team, a similar report was filed at the Iowa District court in the hope of being heard. Moreover, the judges have continuously declined their requests to move this case out of the federal court to the state court. On the other hand, Selzer’s lawyers determined to prove that the case is not closed by bribing the President. They are trying their best to prove their client not guilty, as it comes under her fundamental rights.
Trump framed the lawsuit to charge Kamala Harris with a consumer fraud case and a false narrative of the election. He believes that these actions increased her chances of winning in the case. While Selzer’s defense lawyers have urged the lawyers to deny his request, as they believe it is a move to take revenge on the newspaperman. This could be because he tried to spread fake news regarding Donald Trump.
On dismissal of the case, Donald Trump is trying to close the case at the Federal court, so that he can refile it at the state court of Iowa. However, the Des Moines Register believes that the court might not approve it due to improper procedure and requests. The news channel has got protection by Iowa’s new law of anti-SLAPP statute, which gives it the right to spread the information regarding Trump or any other personality without being threatened.
Conclusion
It looks like President Donald Trump is attempting to file cases against the news channels that are going against him. Moreover, these channels have been called out for spreading fake news by him. To take revenge, he is picking up matters to show their verification issues in front of the court.
