Andre Young, famously known as Dr. Dre, is now Hip Hop?s first billionaire, according to Forbes.com.
The rapper-turned-producer-turned businessman?s company ? Beats by Dre ? which is a top of the line headphone manufacturer, was founded in 2008 with music producer Jimmy Iovine, might be purchased by Apple for $3.2 billion.
With a value of $2 billion, along with headphones, Beats by Dre also provides music streaming service called Beats Music. Available for free download for phones and tablets, after seven days users can either quit or subscribe for $10 per month. And, unlike their competitors ? like Spotify, and iTunes? there?s no browser or desktop application. Although the deal isn?t set in stone, the deal could be announced early next week.
The west coast rap pioneer is widely known for his contributions to hip hop rap group NWA (Niggaz With Attitude) and worked with rappers like Eazy- E, Ice Cube and Eminem.
