Word at Paramount Pictures is that Academy award- winning veteran actor Denzel Washington (Glory, The Hurricane, Malcolm X) will bring August Wilson’s prized play “Fences” to the big screen.
Washington famously starred in the 2010 Broadway revival of “Fences” opposite the lovely Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder).
Both actors won Tony awards for their performances.
This important and beloved play has been a passion of Denzels for many years and it is with great excitement that we embark together to bring his dream project to the big screen, Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey said in a statement.
Washington will direct and star in the film. The move will be his third directorial effort. The first two were The Great Debaters (2007) and Antwoine Fisher (2002).
Pre-production is set to begin this month.
