WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) ? CVS Caremark Corp. said Monday it will give away up to $6 million in seasonal flu shots to people who don’t have health insurance.
The company said vouchers for the vaccination will be available at 400 clinics and health centers around the country. The vouchers can be redeemed for a flu shot at any CVS store or MinuteClinic location. CVS has more than 7,200 stores and about 600 in-store clinics. CVS Caremark said it will work with Direct Relief USA, a nonprofit organization, to give out the shots.
CVS started selling seasonal flu shots on Aug. 22. The vaccinations protect against swine flu, influenza B, and the H3N2 strain, and they cost $29.99. Many health insurers and federal programs cover the flu shot.
CVS Caremark gave away $5 million in flu shots in 2010.
