When you come home to a chaotic bedroom, the space looks cramped. No longer relaxed, instead the stress of your work follows you there. You’re exhausted from the trip, even more so now that you can’t keep calm with a room that looks like a bomb hit it.
Half of your problem is halfway solved, if you got to hit that reset button. Cleaning a room is easy. It’s just harder to get the motivation to do so.
In addition to being an aesthetically appealing site, this uncluttered space has a positive effect on your sleep. Here are some tips to help turn your space into a calming sanctuary.
Start by Clearing Out What You Don’t Need
Before you move your furniture, take a good look at the actual stuff lying around. It may also be a good thing to review what’s inside your closet and drawers. Do you still need them?
Most people keep way more than what they need. Old clothes and forgotten knick-knacks fill their storages, which are supposed to house stuff they use more often.
The easiest way to start is by going through everything in categories:
- Clothes
- Nightstand clutter
- Under-bed storage
- Decoration
Downsizing by taking away unnecessary items is the first step toward a clutter-free space. Once that’s done, it’s time to organize what’s left.
Make Smart Use of Storage
A well-organized room means storing things in a way that feels seamless. The right storage solutions make a huge difference.
Look for multi-purpose furniture. Bed frames with built-in drawers are recommended for storing socks or extra linens. You can also use them to keep valuable items and those that you want to be kept secret.
Floating shelves keep items off surfaces. If they are hard to reach, they won’t get mixed up with other stuff quickly. Also, a foot rest at the edge of the bed with hidden storage can house socks and accessories.
Drawers can get messy fast. Use dividers to keep your stuff from turning into a jumbled mess. Clear bins help keep items visible but contained.
If you have a small closet, use thin hangers that won’t slip. Hanging organizers can also work for scarves, or handbags.
Keep Surfaces Clear
Flat surfaces tend to attract clutter. Dressers and nightstands quickly become dumping grounds for random items. The key to keeping them clear is to give everything a designated spot.
Put things back where they belong after using them. If you find yourself leaving jewelry or keys on the dresser, prepare a special tray contain them. For loose change, a nice piggy bank would be great. If stacks of papers like receipts keep showing up, file them immediately. It’s best to unsubscribe yourself from paper mails and opt for electronic receipts instead.
Nightstands should be especially simple. A lamp and a book are usually enough. It would feel more peaceful that way.
Choose a Calming Color Palette
A clutter-free bedroom is more of creating a relaxing atmosphere. Color changes the feel of a room. Neutral colour schemes can open up a room. So you may want to try beige and white. Blues and greens can calm the senses. Bolder colors are better used in small touches. Busy patterns and bright colors can overwhelm a room. Limit yourself to a palette of complementary tones to keep it all feeling cohesive and serene
Be Mindful of What You Bring In
Decluttering isn’t a one-time event. We know some people who are industrious enough to clean the entire room in a day.
Sadly, they bring in random stuff daily so that their rooms will be back in no time.
If you want to maintain the sense of peace in your bedroom, be very conscious about what enters the space. Ask yourself if new stuff will really contribute to the room before you buy.
And above all, don’t let your bedroom become a dumping ground for miscellaneous household items. Custom built-ins offer storage for blankets, books and shoes, but the family often reorganizes their belongings to maintain tidiness. Remove clutter daily so it doesn’t become overwhelming.
