BALI, Indonesia (AP) ? U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is in Bali, Indonesia, for a Southeast Asian regional security forum. She plans to press China and its neighbors to settle increasingly tense maritime disputes and to urge North Korea to return to nuclear disarmament talks.
Clinton arrived in Bali on Thursday, a day after China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations agreed on draft guidelines to govern behavior in the resource-rich South China Sea. The U.S. is keen to see such a mechanism to resolve disagreements and keep navigation safe. Clinton is expected to offer American ideas on how to make it a success.
In meetings on Friday and Saturday, Clinton will also raise the subjects of North Korea and the situation in military-run Myanmar (mee-an-MAWR’).
