Users Reported Multiple Problems With The Internet Connection

The users who rely on major broadband services like CenturyLink and Quantum Fibre experienced multiple problems with their internet connection within a two and a half hour span. Many of them reported having a full loss of connectivity. Similarly, others reported having a very slow browsing speed. Some also reported intermittent service drops throughout the day. The residents of Denver were the ones who reported most of these problems with the connectivity. This suggests it was one of those areas that was majorly impacted because of the internet outages.

CenturyLink And Other Companies Choose Silence Over The Outage

Even after multiple reports of a severe internet outage across the nation surfaced, service providers like CenturyLink, Quantum Fibre, and BrightSpeed chose to remain silent over the issue. The silence from the service providers sparked a wave of confusion as well as frustration among the masses. People who were impacted by the outage later took over social media and started seeking explanations from the providers through their posts.

One of the users sarcastically commented that CenturyLink takes Juneteenth very seriously and shut down their website as well as the internet connection of all their customers. Another user mentioned how a simple statement addressing the outage would be nice, but they chose not to say anything about it. Since the service providers chose silence, there is no clarification whether the outage is a technical failure, a mechanical failure, or an external threat.

It is important to note that the service providers like CenturyLink and Quantum Fibre, who faced an outage, operate under Lumen Technologies. BrightSpeed also used to operate under Lumen Technologies, but now operates independently.

Concerns Arising After The Biggest Broadband Failures In Recent Times

The internet services were restored for most users, but it still sparked severe concerns regarding the stability of the broadband Infrastructure of the United States. Most schools, businesses, and several other essential services now depend on uninterrupted internet connections. These outages will severely impact such services and businesses. The disruptions in the services also started the debates regarding the ownership transitions and service delivery models within the US telecommunication sector. According to what the industry analysts believe, the consolidation of infrastructure, like the recent Quantum Fibre acquisition, often brings both investment and operational complexities.
