Camille Hastick, a seasoned leader with deep roots in Brooklyn, NY, has embarked on a pivotal role as the vice president for External Affairs and Government Relations at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

Her arrival is timely. The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, or BCC, is one of New York State’s largest and most influential business advocacy groups, and the borough’s leading economic development entity. The chamber has taken Brooklyn global as a unique brand, leading trade missions and shows overseas, partnering with various countries, signing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with business organizations in those countries, and hosting business delegations from around the world to promote the borough as a center of international commerce.

With a career spanning more than two decades across finance, government, and nonprofit sectors, Hastick came to her BCC role with a wealth of experience and a passionate commitment to community empowerment.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Hastick studied at New York University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. Her dedication to civic engagement and public policy was further honed through the prestigious CORO Leadership of New York Fellowship program, renowned for cultivating effective advocates for social change.

CORO, not an acronym, is a word invented by the organization’s founders in 1942 to represent discovery and exploration.

In a recent interview with The Network Journal, Hastick reflected on her career trajectory. “I have been fortunate to work in diverse roles, including significant tenures at institutions like BNY Mellon and the New York City Department of Small Business Services. Each experience provided invaluable insights into economic development and small business support,” she mused.

As a woman business owner herself, Hastick founded Camille Hastick Consulting, a certified NYC Minority Woman Business Enterprise (M/WBE). Through her consultancy, she has empowered small businesses across various sectors by enhancing organizational capabilities and strategic planning.

“My entrepreneurial journey has been about bridging gaps and creating opportunities,” Hastick said.

At BCC, Hastick continues to be steadfast in her commitment to advocate vigorously for Brooklyn’s small business community, particularly those owned by minorities. “I aim to ensure that all voices, especially those historically underrepresented, are heard at decision-making tables,” she stated.

Acknowledging challenges ahead, Hastick highlighted the importance of addressing economic disparities and advocating for equitable policies. “My strategy involves fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, developing robust public policy initiatives, and enhancing economic opportunities borough-wide.”

Being community minded has been a family legacy. Hastick’s father, the late Roy Hastick Jr., was a trailblazer in Brooklyn’s business community as the founder of the Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce. His legacy continues to inspire her advocacy for community empowerment and economic justice.

“My father’s influence taught me the importance of integrity, justice, and amplifying the voices of disadvantaged communities,” Hastick reflected.

While Hastick applauds the trend of women assuming influential roles in local business, she views her appointment as part of a broader movement towards diversity and inclusion in leadership. She notes: “Women leaders bring unique perspectives and strengths to the table. It’s crucial to continue advocating for gender equity and supporting women’s leadership initiatives.”

With a passion for community empowerment, a commitment to small business advocacy, and a vision for inclusive economic growth, Hastick is poised to make a lasting impact on Brooklyn’s business landscape.
