Like many other retailers, Amazon.com Inc. offers free mobile apps in hopes of encouraging smartphone and tablet computer users to shop when they’re on the go.
During a conference call Tuesday with analysts to discuss Amazon’s third-quarter results, Chief Financial Officer Tom Szkutak was asked about the difference in buying habits for physical goods ? such as video games, garden furniture or shoes ? between people using Amazon’s Amazon Mobile app and people using the main Amazon.com website on a computer.
QUESTION: Are customers who are shopping on a smartphone or tablet with Amazon’s mobile app for physical products ? not digital content ? displaying different purchasing behavior than those who are shopping on a PC?
SZKUTAK: In terms of mobile, we actually haven’t released a lot of details on that, so there’s not much I can help you with there. But certainly we are seeing good trends in our mobile business. And again, we like what we’re seeing there, but there’s not much I can help you with on that particular question.
