The Black History & Culture Showcase was created in 2004 to commemorate the important role African Americans have played in American history and to celebrate the contributions they have made to society. It features a diverse mix of enlightening exhibits and activities to accurately present important eras, achievements and events in African American history. Exhibits cover: Black Inventors, Slavery, Military, Sports, Archaeology, Black Radio, Firefighters, Paul Robeson, George Washington Carver and more. Activities include: Speakers, Symposiums, Genealogy Workshop, Living Legends (Tuskegee Airmen, Negro League Players, Buffalo Soldiers), Historical Reenactments, Documentary Films and Performances (Poetry, Jazz, Opera). Literature Suite featuring authors doing readings and book signings. A Fine Arts Suite featuring visual artists with original works available for purchase. A history marketplace with Black memorabilia and collectibles.
