EDUCATION: Graduated from Auburn University with an engineering degree and earned a master’s in business administration from Duke University.
CAREER: Joined Apple Inc. in 1998 as senior vice president of worldwide operations and rose through the ranks to become chief operating officer. Ran Apple temporarily in 2004 and 2009 when CEO Steve Jobs took medical leave of absence. Took that role again in January when Jobs went on an indefinite leave. Named CEO on Wednesday after Jobs resigned.
Before Apple, Cook worked at IBM Corp. for 12 years and spent a short time at Compaq Computer.
He is also a director at Nike.
