Mike Payton Predicts Who The Bills Will Add To Their Team

The Buffalo Bills already consist of two starting-caliber players filling the positions of edge rushers on their team. However, Mike Payton from A to Z Sports has made a prediction of another possible addition to the already existing duo. He wrote that Brandon Beane, the general manager of the Buffalo Bills, is going to continue adding to the pass rush by signing edge rusher Za’Darius Smith. The Detroit Lions recently released Za’Darius Smith ahead of free agency.

Payton Explains Why His Prediction Makes Sense

Payton wrote about how the release of Za’Darius Smith surprised many. He explained how the Detroit Lions will not really want to get caught up in Smith’s void years and potentially have to pay him as well while he’s not even on the team. A lot of people believe that Za’Darius Smith’s reunion with the Detroit Lions is the only way to go forward. However, Payton mentioned how he finds it hard to see that happening as the Lions seem to be pointing their sights toward filling the hole in the draft. On the other hand, he explained how the Bills make a lot more sense for Za’Darius Smith since the team just let go of Von Miller. The Buffalo Bills can actually use some more edge help and Za’Darius Smith will offer just that.

Smith’s Productivity

The Detroit Lions released Za’Darius Smith ahead of free agency, just like the Bills released Miller. The player is still available in the market and will definitely be a great option for the Bills. Za’Darius Smith totaled 9 sacks as well as 63 quarterback pressures in a total of 17 games the previous year. He has also tallied three campaigns with over double-digit sacks since he entered the league in the year 2015. Although he’s getting older, Za’Darius Smith will be a productive player for the Buffalo Bills who are looking for a little help on the edge. The player, who is now 32 years of age, was traded to the Detroit Lions from the Cleveland Browns during the trade deadline of 2024. He played around 9 games for Dan Campbell’s squad.

Impact Of Smith’s Addition On The Bills

The Buffalo Bills already have two edge rushers on their team, namely Greg Rousseau and Joey Bosa. The addition of Za’Darius Smith is definitely going to have a significant impact on the Bills. His addition to the already existing edge rushers duo will create the most powerful pass-rushing trios in football, as well as exceptional depth at edge rushers. Another plus point of this addition is that Za’Darius Smith would not even cost the Buffalo Bills that much. Smith would definitely make a great leader for the team that is looking to make a Super Bowl leap this year in 2025.
